What do you do at Mizuho?
I’m a credit officer, covering the US subsidiaries of Japanese corporates.
What surprised you about Mizuho?
Given that our team is relatively small, your responsibilities could be much broader than elsewhere. This is certainly challenging, but also makes your work more interesting and exciting.
What are Mizuho's culture and people like?
There is a healthy mix of local staff and Japanese expats. The work environment is a fusion of Japanese and American work cultures.
How is Mizuho different from other places you've worked?
I worked in many industries, but one thing I can say for sure is that the people stay at Mizuho for a long time. There are many people who have been here over 15 or 20 years.
How have you grown since joining Mizuho?
I’ve improved my Japanese communication skills, especially written communication. I worked in Japan for a few years, but all the communication was in English as it was a foreign bank. Working at Mizuho, and given my role here, I learned very quickly how to write in "business Japanese"!
